Recess Guidelines During Cold Weather
Please remember that students will play outside at recess throughout the winter. It is important, therefore, that students dress warmly. Clothing appropriate for the weather will ensure that your child is comfortable during the winter months. Students who are feeling uncomfortably cold should talk to one of the playground supervisors about staying inside or coming inside to warm up.
Principals, or a designee, will have the final say when determining if an outside recess will be authorized. The following temperature guidelines will be used:
- When the temperature feels like 20 degrees and above (considering wind chill) - Outside Recess
- When the temperature feels like 16 - 20 degrees (considering wind chill) - Outside Recess with and an Indoor Option for students wishing to remain indoors and for students with inadequate winter clothing.
- When the temperature feels like 10 - 15 degrees (considering wind chill) - Abbreviated Outside Recess 5-10 minutes with and an Indoor Option for students wishing to remain indoors and for students with inadequate winter clothing.
- When the temperature feels like 10 degrees or below (considering wind chill) - Inside Recess.
- Rain, wet/slushy snow, strong winds and other adverse conditions may cause us to remain indoors, also.
